Florida’s Military Chief meets President
Adjutant General of Florida, Major General Emmett R. Titshaw, Jr, today met with President Donald Ramotar for discussions on a promising programme of cooperation that has been ongoing between the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the Florida Air National Guard.
The two military entities have developed a relationship that has been enduring with assistance from the Florida Air National Guard in capacity building, according to Major General Titshaw who assumed the duties as the Adjutant General of Florida in June 2010. He was accompanied by United States Ambassador to Guyana Brent Hardt and a team of four from the Florida Air National Guard.
“We would like to leverage some of the things that we have learnt in the Florida National Guard in the way of disaster response, medical response, things of that nature that we think we can benefit the nation here,” Major General Titshaw said.
During the year, the partnership will promote events where Florida National Guard soldiers and airmen will visit Guyana to continue working relations with their local counterparts.
Last August, a team of water purification specialists under the Florida Army National Guard made an assessment of water purification systems, equipment status and operations to assist the GDF in a plan that can be used to direct future resources.
That same year the 13th Army Band, Florida National Guard participated in a Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) with the GDF Band Corps, as part of the National Guard’s State Partnership Programme that started in 2011 to facilitate training and development of Guyanese military music.
At the first encounter two organised performances were taken to local schools and in front of Parliament Building.
Major General Titshaw previously served as Special Assistant to the Director, Air National Guard and also as the Air National Guard Advisor to the Chief of Staff, United States Air Force.
