For Jagdeo, a PPP victory would herald a further five years of unbridled lust for power
Dear Editor,
Bharat Jagdeo remains the luckiest man in the history of Guyana. Plucked from obscurity by the Jagans, this man has overseen the most corrupt and venal regime in the history of the English-speaking Caribbean and has emerged even more powerful than at any time during his official presidential reign. He desecrated the sacred Hindu marriage vows and for that and for his vindictive treatment towards his βwifeβ he should have been hounded out of office. Instead thanks to the servile and craven nature of the partyβs core supporters this modern-day Caesar has grown and continued to feed on that meat which makes him so great.
The media, the opposition, even the foreign governments have given him a free pass on so many of his atrocities. Now, in the latest campaign he has been a virtual unguided missile in his racist epithets and scurrilous remarks. In his utter contempt for the Guyanese the man had the temerity to trash the legacy of his benefactors. And not so much as a scent of protest came from Rohee, Ramotar, Luncheon, Teixeira, all of whom owe their very political life and good fortune to Cheddi and Janet. Remarkably he is yet to face a debate and will probably leave public life without so much as a mea culpa.
This election is entirely about Jagdeo. A victory would cement his legacy and herald a further 5 years of unbridled lust for power and fortune. The spoils of victory would redound incredibly to the Jagdeo faction with a smattering of crumbs to their loyal supporters. Defeat and Jagdeo would be banished forever from the annals of the PPP, blasted back to the obscurity to which he richly deserves and justifiably derided as the single solitary reason for the PPPβs ejection from power. His fate, and that of the nation lies, literally, in the hands of the people.
