Former Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Mohabir Anil Nandlall, has called out Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo, on his statement concerning Guyanese with dual citizenship.
At an event at the National Cultural Center, the Prime Minister said, “But a true Guyanese is not allowed to hold split loyalty towards Guyana, towards our motherland.”
In response, the former Attorney General stated, “This gentleman (Prime Minister Nagamootoo) has refined hypocrisy, political chicanery and sycophancy to a fine art.”
Nandlall noted that “For the 2015 elections, he was the Prime Ministerial Candidate for APNU/AFC and was one of the most powerful decision makers and leaders in the AFC. Therefore, he would have played a pivotal role in the compilation of the List of Candidates, which the Coalition fielded at those elections. It logically follows that he was part of the decision-making process, which included Charrandas Persaud and four other dual citizens on that List. From that he cannot escape culpability.”
Notably, “When the No-Confidence Motion was passed in the National Assembly on the 21st day of December 2018, he was the first to publicly concede that it was validly passed, that the President including the Cabinet must resign, and that the Government must hold elections within three months. Within one week he genuflected.”
Nandlall argued that Nagamootoo lacked courage to speak out against Harmon, Greenidge and others who are also dual citizens when they should have resigned, and he lacks courage now to speak out against the fact that special positions have been created for these dual citizens in very important Ministries.
“Even after the cases were filed, and while Ministers Joseph Harmon, Carl Greenidge, Dr. Rupert Roopnarine and Dominic Gaskin refused to resign despite their dual citizenship, he remained silent, demonstrably lacking the courage to make the statements, which he now makes.
“Even now, these dual citizens continue to occupy newly created crucial posts in the Administration and but still yet refuse to renounce their foreign citizenship, yet he lacks the courage to make a negative pronouncement against them,” Nandlall stated.
