Former Miss Guyana Finalist and local model Ali Williams is fuming after she was dragged and physically assaulted at the Providence Police Station by a policeman as her helpless children watched on. The incident took place on International Women’s Day, Saturday March 9, and Williams wants charges to be filed against the police officer who she said assaulted her.

In a statement, Williams who is anAdvertising and Marketing Executive, explained that as she drove to work she was involved in a minor “fender bender” accident when another car bumped into her. She said she decided to head to the Providence Police Station to file an official report to ensure that the other driver bears the cost of the damage to her vehicle.

According to the mother of two, she found herself waiting for over 30 minutes for a police officer to take her report and some of the policemen reportedly became incensed as she started to question the length of time it was taking for her report to be taken.

She said eventually the report was taken and the Policeman said they needed to keep her vehicle overnight and also needed her to hand over her keys. She said she objected and began questioning why there was a need for her vehicle to remain in the Police compound overnight when she had already filed a report and photographs of the damage could have been taken or provided.

“I went into the station followed by Officer Tracy and sat on the bench. He further told me when I was ready to hand over my keys, I should tell him, and again I refused unless he could say why. I proceeded to make a call to family informing them what was happening and where I was. Officer Tracy then grabbed me by my arm pulled me up from the bench, dragging me more the 10 feet while ringing my hand to take away my personal phone, then chucking me to sit on the station bench like a common criminal in the presence of my two crying children”, Williams said in her statement.

Ali Williams Bio:

I am 5’ 9” and copper toned. I just completed a Diploma in Public Communications at the University of Guyana.

I was named Ali in memory of my paternal grandfather who was Muslim. I am outdoor oriented person and the youngest of three sisters. I hail from Beterverwagting on the East Coast of Demerara some nine miles outside the city of Georgetown. While as a grown-up I can be reserved in the company of strangers, my childhood was spent engaged in pulling off delightful carefree pranks on my sisters; tree climbing , fishing and swimming in nearby canals.

My family now resides at Bachelor’s Adventure where I am caught up in weekly church activities such as counseling and outdoor youth activities e.g. camping.

I received my primary education at the F. E. Pollard Primary School on David Street, Kitty. Before moving on the Bygeval Secondary School on the East Coast. In 1998 I attained 6 subjects at the CXC – grades 1 – 3.

My interests in pageants was aroused way back. I remember as a little girl I always relished “dressing up”. I could not resist getting into my mother’s oversized dressing and painting my face with lipstick. When I as older I continued in this direction satisfying my urge to look pretty by taking part in school concerts, plays and plaiting of the May Pole. I was also involved with some school sports, volleyball and circle tennis. Modeling also became a big part of my teenage life.

At Bygeval Secondary School I ended my secondary school life by winning the coveted Miss Bygeval crown in 1998. Winning this crown encouraged me to commence modeling classes at Eye Full Creative Modeling Agency. I have since participated in the Red Cross Fashion Show and Remembering the Late Cheddi Jagan.

I have also taken steps along my chosen career path. I worked briefly with the Guyana Sugar Corporation Inc. (GUYSUCO) in the capacity of a laboratory technician at its Central Analytical Laboratory located in LBI. I have some experience in real estate sales and rental and I completed the two year diploma in Public Communication. I am putting my communication training to good use currently in the GUSUCO Communications Unit as a Trainee Communications Officer. This job enables me travel to different estates; meeting people of varying backgrounds and testing the waters at photojournalism.

My long term goal however is to become a lawyer and to this end I will re-enter the University of Guyana in September to complete my studies.

I was afforded the opportunity to produce and host “Youths in World Problems” – a weekly half hour television programme broadcast on Channel 67 in 2002. This helped me to engage other young people in discussions about some of the important issues affecting Guyana. HIV/AIDS, Child Abuse, Crime etc. were some of the topics explored. I hope that I will soon be able to actively help children affected by HIV/AIDS.

My motto in life is “Nothing Comes Without Prayers and Hard Work” My advice everyone is to make sure that some time in your life you just have FUN.

The Guyana police force is at it again. Immune from disciplinary actions. Start jailing some of these cancers and useless leeches.
