Four Queens teenagers were killed Monday when their car — driven by a 17-year-old with only a learner’s permit — sped off a slick Long Island highway and wrapped itself around a tree.
Joseph Beer, who was at the wheel, somehow survived the wreck that killed his pals, State Police officials said.
Beer lost control of the 2012 Subaru Imprezza when he “failed to negotiate a curve,” officials said.
While Beer was being treated at a Nassau County hospital and questioned by investigators, four other families in the Richmond Hill section were facing what’s likely to be wrenching funerals.
All four victims were 18, and three of them — Peter Anthony, Chris Khan and Darian Ramnarine — were “popular” and “well known” seniors at Richmond Hill High School, a school source said.
“It’s going to be a very sad day at the school,” the source said.

SAD, REALLY SAD. AGAIN!! NOT SO LONG AGO 3 KIDS FROM RH GOT KILLED ON VAN WYCK BY JFK. My Sympathy goes out to ALL yhe Fanilies.
It is SAD but I have to say this with caution, I think Guyanese Perents and especially the Mothers dont have the necessary Parenting skills that are needed in New York (USA). Pleasing a Kid all the time is NOT proper parenting skills. Teenagers thing they know it all and that they have all the answers and sometimes it is too much to debate them and they go ahead and do what they want. This happena all the time, even in my Household, however, we dont have to provide them with new Cars etc when they
are not equipped to have one. A Car can be a very dangerous thing if someone dont have the necessary skills and experience. After the Van Wyck Tragedy I was hoping that we would never hear about another one. I am NOT going to debate and of the facts surronding this Tragedy.
Drivers with learner permits are prohibited from driving unless accompanied by a supervising driver, age 21 or older, who has a valid license, according to the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

Very sad situation. Can't imagine what their families are going through.
its very sad but some parent do not think what they are doing?
WE all have to pray for the Families. I too cannot imagine what they are going through. I hope the Community will help them to deal with this grave Tragedy. I also hope that the Connumity Leaders will do everything in their Power to help the Families.

Thank you. This is really SAD and I am not blaming Parents but I am hoping that yet another Tragedy of this nature will bring more focus on issues of Teenagers,Parenting and other Social issues.

I believe Under 21 Driver's License Holders in NY are not allowed to drive on the Highway and never after 9PM.

Nehru, it takes two to make a baby/child. Parenting is not only done by a MOTHER it is also done by a FATHER.
If the FATHER is absent then all the parenting is trusted onto the mother.
It seems that you get your highs from degrading women all the time on GNI.
My sympathies to the families of the deceased children.
Speeding on SOuthern State is inviting disaster unless you are very famaliar with it....I've been using it for 15 years now and I see some crazy drivers
