Just imagine the burden on your young shoulders being a 4th Generation racer and you could immediately figure out the enormous pressure that 10 years old Nathan Rahaman experiences whenever he goes to the starting line.
Young Rahaman, who lies second in the Sunburst-sponsored 60cc Kids Cup Series will line-up in today’s Georgetown Grand Prix Final Showdown at GT Motorsports on Albert Street.
Speaking at the Team’s garage yesterday, Rahaman whose father and grandfather are Ryan and Jad Rahaman said that even though group leader Jeremy Ten-Pow is in an unassailable lead, he feels he has a good chance of upstaging his main rival.
β€œI’m going all out to win all my races tomorrow (today) I’ve been registering competitive times and I expect to do well to end 2017 on a high,” Rahaman said.
The precocious racer disclosed that his preparations to sit the Secondary Schools Entrance Examinations (SSEE) has affected his preparations somewhat, but this he says is no excuse and he will be throwing down the gauntlet on all his rivals.
He, however, assured that come next year when the exams are finished he will be putting in the hard work to develop his skills further and this will mean getting more seat time, a sacrifice he is willing to make.
Asked about his love for the sport, Rahaman’s response was that, β€œI really enjoy racing and would like to become a race car driver following in the footsteps of my father and grandfather someday.”
Meanwhile, the young racer received sponsorship from Valvoline, an entity that has supported the Rahaman racers over the years and he thanked them for staying the course and assisting in his ambition to develop his skills in the sport and those before him as well.
Asked to describe the job GT Motorsports has been doing under the astute leadership of Vishok Persaud, Rahaman applauded the effort, referring to it as excellent and much needed help to sustain the sport, while also adding to the development of young aspiring racers.
He pointed to the upgrade that the track has undergone and the safety measures put in place to ensure the protection of competitors as commendable expansions by Persaud.
Rahaman collected a cheque for an undisclosed sum from Operations Manager of Sankar Auto Works Darsho Singh to aid in his preparations for today’s event.
