Loser should accept defeat -President Ramotar

Just after casting his ballot in the 2015 national elections, President Donald Ramotar declared that “the loser should accept defeat”, but he is sure that will not be him.

The President, his wife and children cast their votes at the St. John’s College on Waterloo Street and he expressed confidence of capturing the majority when the final results are announced. He said he is looking to win possibly 40 of the 65 seats in parliament.

The President said once the elections are free and fair, then the party that did not win, ought to accept defeat.

“Once the elections are free and fair, and pronounced free and fair, I think the loser should accept defeat, whoever the loser will be and which I am sure wouldn’t be me”.

The President said he has no definite plans for the rest of elections day but intends to visit various parts of the city and its environs as part of observing the process.

He said he met some of the observers for the elections over and expressed some of the concerns of the People’s Progressive Party. Mr. Ramotar noted that he is not sure whether all of those concerns would have been addressed.

In the run up to the elections, the PPP had written to GECOM expressing worry over several aspects of the elections process.
