GCB U-17 Inter-County 50-over cricket…Demerara remain unbeaten, E’bo beat U-15s as bowlers dominate in low scoring games

The bowlers dominated in the low scoring matches in the second round of the GCB 50-over Inter-County U-17 cricket competition yesterday as hosts Demerara won the their second match with a 76-run victory over defending Champs Berbice at Bourda and Essequibo won their first when they beat the National U-15 select by 18 runs at Lusignan.

At Bourda, Demerara elected to bat in sweltering heat on a slow track and heavy outfield and led by 32 from Andre Seepersaud, 23 from Sachin Singh, 22 from Navindra Persaud and 18 from Yeudister Persaud reached 160 all out in 50 overs.
Nigel Deodat followed up his 50 in the first round with 4-33, while Gurov Ramesh (2-35) and Marvan Prashad (2-26) supported for Berbice who were dismantled for 84 in 33.5 overs despite Seon Glasgow’s 21 and 10 each from Ricardo Ramdhol, Chanderpaul Govindan, Fawuz Gafoor and Skipper Gevon Shultz.
Niron Bissu took 4-11 to take his second consecutive Man-of-the-Match Award and got support from Hrithit Singh who bagged 2-28.

Berbice were set 161 to win and Ramdhol added 22 for the first wicket but once they were separated wickets tumbled, including Deodat who fell for five as Berbice lost their way.
And when Glasgow, who reached the boundary three times, departed at 47-7 after making the tournament’s only century in his last match, it was all over barring the shouting for Berbice.
Earlier, Demerara’s Sachin Singh and Himnauth Dindyal (5) added 20 before pacer Saif Amoi removed Dindyal.
Singh who dumped Deodat for a couple of scorching fours and a six into the Rohan Kanhai stand in the same over, got one that held up on him and spooned an easy catch to short mid-wicket as Deodat got the last laugh at 46-2.
Dwayne Dick (6) was bowled by Deodat, Navindra Persaud was run out and Deodat got rid of Andrew Samaroo (4) and Seepersaud as the home team slipped to 118-6.
Yeudister Persaud and Trevon Charles (12) carried the score to 149 before Prashad and Ramesh polished off the tail.
At Lusignan, Essequibo were restricted to 138 off their 50 overs as Amir Singh with 41 from 87 balls and two fours and Saed Hakh who made 41 from 110 balls offered resistance with only Badesh Parsotan (13) of the other batsmen reaching double figures on a slow track and rough outfield.
Jonathon Rampersaud had 2-25, while Jeremy Saudia captured 4-16 for the U-15s, who due to poor shot selection while needing to score at under 2.5 runs per over, fell for 120 in 49.4 overs after needing 34 to win off the last five overs with seven wickets down.
Nicolas Rampat (16) and Mahendra Gopilall (14) provided the U-15s who are using this tournament as preparation for next month’s Regional U-15 Tournament in Jamaica, with a solid 42-run opening stand before Rampat was removed by Manoj Dasrath.

Only the left-handed Rampersaud who hit a six in his 26 before he was ninth out, bowled by Syivan Williams at 117-9 and Romel Datterdeen (12) got into double figures.
Parsotan returned with the ball to take 4-11 and the Man-of-the-Match Award, while Dasrath backed him up with 3-15.
Tomorrow is the final round and Demerara, the team with two wins will play Essequibo at Bourda, while Demerara will oppose the U-15s at Everest.
