Marian Academy brushed aside St. Roses High School girls to set up a fitting rematch with President’s College when the Georgetown and East Coast Regional Playoffs of the National Schools’ Basketball Festival (NSBF) continued Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Marian defeated St. Roses 18-7 with Jada Mohan the top performer with 13 points and seven steals, while Renuka Ramcharran 2 points and six rebounds and Kellian Sauers two points and five rebounds, offered support.
Jamaica Blair fought hard for St. Roses with figures of four points, four rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Plaisance Secondary overwhelmed Tutorial High School 63-32 to confirm their favourite status. Andrew Johnson top scored with 19 points, while Nigel Bowen recorded a double-double with 12 points and13 rebounds; Reuben Reid added 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Denzil Logan had 15 points and Zion Gray six points and 10 rebounds for Tutorial.
The Government Technical Institute (GTI) was too strong for the young Adult Education side, winning 62-39 with Shamar Huntly scoring 14 points and seven rebounds and Nickosie Allicock 14 points and eight rebounds; Richard Telford had 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Terrence Ardain had 15 points and four rebounds and Shamar Keiler 10 points and nine rebounds for Adult Education.
Marian Academy booked a place in the Under-19 semi-finals with a 59-21 victory against The Bishops’ High School.
National junior giant, Timothy Thompson was dominant with 25 points and 24 rebounds, while Jahleel Young chipped in with 14 points and 19 rebounds. Joshua Smith was the top scorer for Bishops’ with seven points.

In what can be called the final quarterfinals of the night, President’s College and St. Roses High went down to the wire, with the former edging their rivals 55-53 to clinch a semi-final spot.
Anthon Fileen had a game high 29 points, Akeem Crandon added 10 points and eight rebounds and Kennon Roberts 12 rebounds for President’s College to secure the big win.
Anthony Yansen scored 25 points with seven rebounds and six steals and Kwesi Roberts 10 points and five rebounds for Roses in the losing effort.
The U-19 semis will see PC taking on Plaisance from 5:00pm and GTI taking on Marian Academy from 6:00pm on Thursday at the Sports Hall.
The Georgetown/ East Coast Regional Finals are set for Friday, June 30 from 4:30pm. Edward B Beharry Group of Companies Ltd and The National Sports Commission are the sponsors of the tournament.
