When, competition in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/National Milling Company of Guyana (NAMILCO) Thunderbolt Flour Power Intra Association Under-17 League continued with round-two action on the weekend, registering victories were Paradise Invaders and Cougars. Enjoying home advantage at the Paradise ground, Paradise Invaders edged Hopetown Rangers 2-1, while 9-man Cougars trounced Young Strikers 2-0 playing at Burnham Park, New Amsterdam. For Paradise, both goals were scored in the first half, Daniel Nicholson, playing his first official match for Paradise opened proceedings in the 12th minute with Shaqueel DeHarte’s 22-minute strike doubling the lead. A fighting Hopetown Rangers side pulled one back with a very good finish from Telston Miller in the 26th minute after receiving a pass from the right side on the edge of the 18 yards box. Neither team were able to get the better of each other in the second half which meant that the scores remained the same in favour of Paradise. In not so favourable conditions as the west side, Cougars, playing with nine men, showed their superiority over newcomers Young Strikers by scoring one goal in each half, both off the boot of Dwaine Alleyne to deny their opponents. Alleyne was on target in the 16th and 39th minutes as the match was played for only 70 minutes due to persistent rain. Alleyne’s effort was enough to secure victory in a fiercely contested clash. Matches are slated to continue this weekend, on Sunday at the Paradise ground from 15:30hrs, Hopetown United Rangers will oppose Mahaicony Thunder Hawks, while from the same time at Burnham Park, Cougars will match skills with Corriverton Links.
