In brilliant sunny conditions on Saturday last at the Paradise ground, Paradise Invaders made full use of home advantage including crowd support to needle a spirited Mahaicony Thunderhawks when competition in the Berbice Football Association (BFA) segment of the GFF/NAMILCO Thunderbolt Flour Power U17 Intra Association League continued. Paradise’s leading goal getter, Shakeel DeHarte was again the man of the moment when his 58th minute strike ended up being the sealer. Chances were created at both ends of the pitch but neither team were clinical as they wanted to be in finishing. In similar sunny conditions on Sunday at the same venue, Monedderlust sailed to a 2-0 victory over Mahaicony Thunderhawks with goals either side of play. A penalty was awarded for an infringement in the box in the 3rd minute of the 70 minute encounter. Paul McDonald drove a right foot shot, from the penalty mark past the outstretched right hand of Mahaicony’s custodian, Anthony Bovell who otherwise, had a brilliant match. The second goal came early in the second half and this time it was the diminutive Chetram ‘Devin’ Saroopchand aka Messi who broke away on the left side in the box and fired home a left foot shot to the far right hand corner. The goalie secured the near post but did not have a blinker of a chance to react. In the other Sunday match, which was contested at Burnham Park in New Amsterdam, host team New Amsterdam United whipped Corriverton Links, 4-0 after a 1-0 half time score-line. NA United’s scorers were Jamal McCalmont (40th minute), Tierre Phillips (66th and 78th minute) and Troy Munroe who sealed the deal in the 87th minute. Rivalry will continue this weekend on the West Side, on Sunday from 15:30hrs, Paradise Invaders will be at home to Hopetown United Rangers, while on the East Side from the same time, Cougars will tangle with Young Strikers at Burnham Park.
