A walk over from Mahaicony Thunder Hawks paved the way for New Amsterdam United to end as the top team when the second and final round of the GFF/NAMILCO Thunderbolt Flour Power National Under-17 Intra Association League ended in Berbice this past weekend.
A number of walk over’s were responsible for the final outcome of the second round of the nationwide league which had commenced in 2016 when the first concluded in Berbice.
First round winners, Paradise Invaders were unable to maintain that winning momentum and ended the second round in the fourth position, three points from the standard of 16 which was garnered by NA United.
The walk over bug bit Paradise Invaders and put paid to their ambitions of landing the double.
Young Strikers also won via the walk over route from Monedderlust as did Corriverton Links and Young Strikers from Monedderlust and Paradise Invaders on September 10.
Cougars FC Dwayne Alleyne ended as the highest goal scorer of the round with a total of 11 goals in seven (7); Hopetown United’s Dave Torrington has been recommended for the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award for his 5 goals, numerous assists and general work ethic which enabled his team to end in the third place.
The Best Goalkeeper award will go to Daniel Bowen of Cougars with honourable mention to Melroy Joseph of NA United and Alex Inness of Hopetown United Rangers; the latter club is being recommended for the Fair Play Award.
The Berbice Football Association (BFA) is currently exploring the possibility of running off a playoff among the top four teams; a decision would be taken shortly.
