National Paralympic Table Tennis champions and world 46 ranked Paralympic table tennis player level 10 Gibrain Safarz Hussein is currently in the United States of America Participating in the US Open Championships.
A category 10 player who hails from Corentyne, Berbice, He is scheduled to play in the singles and team edition of the championships and in the team edition he will be paired with two players from the USA Terrence Octavius and Metcalf Randal and will compete against Denmark and Puerto Rico. Hussien, a national Paralympic sports award winner, is an ITTF level two coach who works with developing young players in the Corentyne area region six (6) and is making his reintroduction into competitive play on the international circuit. Guyana Achieving International Paralympic Committee status With the advent of Guyanaβs National Paralympic Committee headed by Mr. Wilton Spencer and with the government of Guyana fulfilling the requirements to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to gain accreditation status, Guyana has now cleared the way for its Paralympic athletes to compete in world international events and Olympic cycle Paralympic games which has now become a feature of Olympic styles games. This was an inhibitor which affected athletes such as Hussein from participating in the Pan American Rio Olympic games and other games in the past. Of significance is that this clears the way for national federations to start developing programmes for paraathletes at different levels an area that is growing and for which Guyana can be very competitive on the world stage. Gibrain, a prospect for the Commonwealth Games, has his eyes set on being accepted to participate in the 2018 edition of the Commonwealth Games scheduled for April 2018 on the Gold Coast, Australia. He is drawn with Daybell Kim World ranked number 6 player from Great Britain and Sam Huang of the USA to participate in the groups with a view of advancing to the round of 16.
