Give us space to govern -APNU+AFC’s Jennifer Wade
Intermittent heckling did not sidetrack the passionate MP who slammed the opposition over what she believes is its premature criticism of the APNU+AFC government.
APNU+AFC Regional Member of Parliament for Region #5 Jennifer Wade, delivered a stirring presentation on Tuesday during the ongoing budget debates in the National Assembly. She spared no words or sound effects, as she called out the previous People’s Progressive Party administration out on its “neglect” of the region and its management of the agriculture sector.
Intermittent heckling did not sidetrack the passionate MP who slammed the opposition over what she believes is its premature criticism of the APNU+AFC government.
“Give us space to govern and stop the blame game,” Wade told with the opposition MPs.
She acknowledged the scope for improvement both within Region#5 and across the county but was adamant that the new government must be given the necessary time needed to resolve the issues it inherited when it came to office in May.
“We inherited a mess,” Wade said, much to the disagreement of the opposition MPs.
She spoke of the dilapidated state of several roads in the region and the setbacks that beset the Guyana Police Force (GPF) in its fight against criminal activities.
Her concerns were raised similarly over the last three years, while she participated in the House as an opposition MP.
She defended the sitting Ministers with responsibility for public infrastructure and security and insisted that the current state of affairs were inherited from the previous PPP administration.

Wade boasted that Region #5 was in fact the country’s largest agriculture region but pressed for more support for a region she believes is the backbone of the economy.
She chided the PPP for its failure to engages all stakeholders in the rice industry over its 23 years in government, something the APNU+AFC government has done over its three months.
Ms. Wade assured of the formulation of new strategies to ensure profitability and sustainability and announced an end to victimization, spitefulness and political interference.
“This new government
will take industry forward.”
The Member of Parliament also bemoaned that state of the sugar industry but is confident that her government would resolve the standing issues. (Kurt Campbell)
