Can this work?  I think it can.  Of course people are 'shy' about disclosing who they are.  A few ways around that:

* Make it a costume party

* Bill the event as "GNI members, readers and friends". That way, people can opt to say that they are readers or friends of members, and not posters. Of course people would be free to say that the post on GNI and even state their GNI 'handle'.

* Organize the events by city. So, for example, you could have "Toronto GNI get together", New York GNI get together, Miami GNI get together....  You get the idea.

* It might help to improve understanding, take the temperature down and even build some solid, long lasting friendships.  From what I see, the overwhelming majority of people here are very good - even though their bark is often worse than their bite.

I suppose it can work for some people as long as politics isn't discussed. Me personally, there are a couple of people here I want nothing to do with not because we have different views but because of how nasty and low and ignorant they can get. When you see the person for who or what he or she really is, you want nothing to do with them.

That may be so.  But I know of a poster here who is nothing close as to what he portrays himself to be on GNI. Reading his posts would certainly cause one to shy away from such a person in the real world.  However, u would be surprised to know that he' s quite person. Doesn't curse. Very soft spoken and very hospitable.  I guess what im trying to say is not everybody who comes on here acting like an ass is one. Its just an act man.

This one particular person came at me personally. That's not an act.

Same here. Everyone else is fine except this one person (X) who comes after me personally as if I owe X or stole something from X. I don't know X and have nothing to do with X, so I don't understand the animosity. Anyway, I take the high road and find other things to keep busy because I'm too blessed to be stressed.
