APNU+AFC coalition to take steps to ensure that the coalition enjoys a sweeping victory at the May 11 polls. Addressing a large gathering at Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, (ECD) on Saturday, the Opposition Leader called on the rally to mobilize party supporters and ensure that they vote the current government out of office. Noting that at the last elections 56,000 people in the region refrained from voting, Granger appealed to supporters to go out “in the highway and byways,” and find those persons and ensure that they cast their ballots in favour of the coalition. “You gave APNU 60% percent of the vote. But too many people in Region Four did not vote and too many voted for the wrong party. The PPP got 60,000 votes in Region Four. And how (have) they treated you? They gave you floods. They gave you phantom squads,” the politician told supporters at the rally. Pointing to the rise in the number of murders, Granger said, “The PPP refused to investigate the deaths of people in the East Coast between 2002 and 2008. They refused to investigate the killing of their own Agriculture Minister Satyadeow Sawh. What do they have to hide?” The APNU/AFC Presidential Candidate also accused the Government of bringing the nation into disrepute. He spoke of the actions of the President, whom he referred to as a dictator and called on the crowd to put an end to the dictatorship. “We don’t want dictators to run this country, so we have to vote,” Granger added. The Opposition Leader also noted that the attendance of party stalwarts, such as

Khemraj Ramjattan, C.N. and Jaipaul Sharma and Basil Williams attested to the fact that they had come together as evidence of their commitment to the nation. “On February 14, we shook hands. Six political parties had come together to resist the Government. We won in 2011. You gave us the majority with your vote and we will win in 2015!” The Presidential candidate also condemned the increased rate of piracy on the high seas, which he added is not being addressed. Granger spoke of visiting Corentyne fishermen, who were afflicted by the piracy scourge. “I have never seen Clement Rohee go in those areas. He is busy (disputing) with GECOM. He is not paying attention to your safety. Crime has risen under the PPP/C. We have a murder rate now that shows that under Jagdeo and Ramotar, 21,000 (persons) have been killed.” As such, Granger noted that the nation faces very grave problems which cannot be solved by the PPP/C. “We face problems of crime. So don’t listen to propaganda. There is no peace and safety. There is (only) sudden destruction…” Granger stressed. Granger also spoke of the rampant corruption in the Government. “It is the people’s need versus the PPP greed… They never can find money to fix the University of Guyana, but they can find to build a hotel (Mariott)… Every project Bharrat Jagdeo put his hands to do is flawed. Just look at the fibre optic cable. The APNU/AFC did not stop the fiber optic cable it stopped itself because of incompetence and corruption…” he added. According Granger the evidence shows that the PPP government has failed. “Every year, 6000 boys and girls drop out of school… The education system is broken and they cannot provide employment; the employment system is broken it can provide for young people to get jobs but your last word and that last word is the vote and they cannot take that away from you … “Brothers and sisters I want you to go on the 11th May and vote the PPP out of office.”
