I've worked in IT for over 2 decades and I've seen respected high-level works not only by Whites and Indians, bit also Chinese, Viets, Koreans, Ghanians, Israelis and others. We tend to get carried away with the news that headline his thread, but keep things in perspective - most of the Google Android Engineers are low-level coders and medium-level coders. They would operate lower down the IT food chain. 

So two things to note - (I) do not use this as an occasion to thump the Indian chest, and (ii) it is way off-base to knock the Black IT intellect. You have to work in IT a high level to understand this. Bibibski and Nehru are not even in the neighborhood, let alone the ball park. They are wandering lost on some highway.

that article is about Google competing with Apple and Microsoft for low-level IT factory workers. I'm not knocking it, but I just wanted to keep a proper perspective here and not bash other races. You have to see what the Ghanians do for ARFINIC - the African continent of ARIN (which is the American Internet Registry). You have to see their work in encryption technologies and web 2.0 technologies from Universities like Harvard.

What is wrong with taking this project to Africa? It's great to see Google starting the project in India, and they should spread it to Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zaire, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Malawi, Senegal, Cameroon, Namibia, South Africa, etc.

That's all well and good if they have the Educational infrastructure to handle the job.

Google is not doing this for charity but pure business.  A ready-made strong STEM education and an IT process mindset which is well matured.   Bolt on English and you have a huge value proposition.  If India can move to the more innovative/inventive stage, it will become a major force in Global IT.  The ground work has been laid.

Trump has no reason to be upset, this is not blue-collar hard-core manufacturing.  Besides, taking the jobs there means much less H1B visas.  Under a Trump president, India and the US will develop a strategic alliance.

You can't tell a JCL form a script or understand what is a track, cylinder or volume on a disk pack.

They most certainly have laid down a foundation here given they are almost 3 decades into it and have generated a culture in the industry. Most are still grunts.

Also, these people themselves make up a an on demand supply programming institution.They have an ethnic culture with coincident work culture and it does foster growth. They see it as the end all. There is no such connectedness  among US programmers here except in clubs or hobbyist groups who share the love for a thing or those employed direct in a research specialty. Note programming has a shelf life about a year so if you are up on the best techniques of ruby on rails, you have to keep up. Rails for example just released version 5 last month so everyone who is with the old version has to get upgraded.

Is that not what makes Skeldon ape comment about JCL etc not the most saddest case of ignorance displayed ever? He is lost by decades.

People here who are uninformed an just look at headlines to form an understanding ought to know where IT innovation comes from. The Japanese for instance are up there with the Americans in Virtual Reality (VR) and Artificial Reality )AR) along with Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Israelis ar ehuge in Network security. The Russians are good at databases of large systems. And so on and so on. I know that the headlines you hear about Indian IT skills have to be tempered by the fact that maybe 5% is at that high innovative level, and yest they are CEOs of the two of the biggest IT companies - Microsoft and Google.

Listen banna.  When they come here, the salary range is competitive.  These same people end up buying big fancy houses and nice cars.  I happen to know some of these people, and they are solidly in the six-figure salary range, way way above median income.  And they progress quickly as they build their presentation and managerial skills.

And Indians are not brought here just or low costs, they are brought for skills.  Now I know an Indian hater like you cannot swallow that fact, but too bad, you don't shape things, you just accept and deal with it!!

A programmer makes about 45 to 60 K. Senior ones about a 100k. That is a lot of loot for a guy from mumbai. Very few makes more unless they are in areas of security and government systems and these programmers will never get clearance to do that work.

They are brought here green. On the job work always has to include in house training. No programmer fits in immediately. As I said above, programming is about a culture and one has to be eased into an established system. And why would business go outside for programmers if they will have to pay them more? We have an abundance of qualified programmers. If one needs really good programmers who know tech they can always hire an Israeli

Anyone who thinks Indians are "grunts" only are way out of touch with reality.  They are highly skilled and run much of the training of staff.  There was a time when they were just back-office programmers.  That era has long gone.

And Kari, no one is knocking Black IT talents, but there is no single nation source to find 2 mil programmers, high-end or low-end!  Yes, there is China but language is a big hurdle.  Maybe the only other place is Russia, but 2 mil is tall order even there!

Google is hoping for android dominance by training these people in hope they go out and build creative apps. Google will not hire these people and very few will come up with the next snap chat. The aim here is to create a wide enough android culture to sustain it long term. And yes, the only reason there are massive H1B indians coming is because they  will work for less.

Listen banna.  When they come here, the salary range is competitive.  These same people end up buying big fancy houses and nice cars.  I happen to know some of these people, and they are solidly in the six-figure salary range, way way above median income.  And they progress quickly as they build their presentation and managerial skills.

And Indians are not brought here just or low costs, they are brought for skills.  Now I know an Indian hater like you cannot swallow that fact, but too bad, you don't shape things, you just accept and deal with it!!

A programmer makes about 45 to 60 K. Senior ones about a 100k. That is a lot of loot for a guy from mumbai. Very few makes more unless they are in areas of security and government systems and these programmers will never get clearance to do that work.

They are brought here green. On the job work always has to include in house training. No programmer fits in immediately. As I said above, programming is about a culture and one has to be eased into an established system. And why would business go outside for programmers if they will have to pay them more? We have an abundance of qualified programmers. If one needs really good programmers who know tech they can always hire an Israeli

Maybe it's the ones I happen to know, none are in that salary range.  They are close to or in the six figure range!

dummy...your profound knowledge made you ask me that question above which should have been asked 30 years ago! I never said I know much about the IT field since it is vast an punctuated with niche areas. I know enough to survive and be employed in it continuously for decades  and that is all that matters.
