After all, $300M will not be enough for prostitution day, May 26th.

The APNU+AFC Administration has been accused of bullying the private sector to make donations to special projects and more specifically to make contributions to the 50th Anniversary Jubilee celebrations.

Sources have reported to Demerara Waves that the administration is asking that businessmen donate as much as $5M to the Jubilee Festival expected to get into full swing in May.

As those concerns were raised, the Chief Whip of the Opposition People’s Progressive Party (PPP) also stated that the private sector was being extorted.

At a recent press conference, Teixeira reported that businessmen are being asked to donate to the APNU+AFC or to specific projects.

It is “extortion from the business community to make donations to the ruling party and to make donations to specific projects,” Teixeira told a press conference on March 31.

She labeled the development a “dangerous trend” noting that it allows for the society to be permeated with “fear and intimidation.”

However Administration is denying the allegations.

Telecommunication and Tourism Minister Cathy Hughes at a recent GTT donation press conference made it clear that this was not the case.

Responding directly to the concerns raised by Teixeira, Hughes stated that she had reached out via letters to a number of corporate citizens.

“I am excited and very happy to say that I have not had to bully anybody…most Guyanese are excited that we are 50 and most Guyanese are approaching the Ministry of Tourism and saying what are you doing and how is it that we can get involved,” said the Minister.

Can you believe this? Yes, believe it!

And exactly why should the Guyanese government be any different, and not ask private companies for donations? It is not illegal or immoral. It is just that the PPP run businesses are too damn greedy. They just want, want, want.

The majority of businesses in Guyana are owned by Indians, by extorting pressure ,fear and demanding donations from these businesses, would only mean, if you don't give , the government will make life difficult and the final result be "out of business". This is an Old Tactic mastered during the Burnham Era, and I know that for a FACT. Forbes used to dictate what amount you have to give annually. Granger went into the basement and dusted off the old PNC manifesto and now implementing chapter by chapter. Eventually, the Indians will not take it and then shut shop and run.

Indeed! Thanks for pointing that out.

There businessmen were already having to "donate" to the PPP against their will. But they could not say anything in public, unless they wanted Jagdeo to finish them off. The claims by the PPP that these businesses are being forced to donate is a damn lie. Where are the business owners who have publicly said that they were subjected to any such force? Let them speak up.

Mr.T

Hey, isn't this what Burnham/PNC used to do back in the day and when the businesses don't comply, they were harassed and the owners and family targeted by PNC goons!!

This is old PNC back again!!

Why reach out to citizens via letters and what is written in those letter. The idea of letters  is intimidation .

My goons? I challenge you to name the party that I have voted for in the last election. I even challenge you to point out what racial group in Guyana I belong to. You just don't know it. Whichever way you wish to circumvent the fact, the PNC and the PPP are from the same tree, just different branches.

Mr.T

I don't know who you vote for in UK, but I know where your royalty is in Guyana.

You belong to the racist PNC and their acolytes , you believe everyone on this forum is a "Fool Like You"

If the admin issued bans on accusing people of belonging to this or that party, you would surely be the first I would request such a ban for. It was your dad who was hugging up Burnham, and now you trying to hide that by claiming everyone else is PNC.

Don't sway from the topic, I repeat you are a racist PNC supporter, you mama did coming out Burnham helicopter at Belfield...

I am going to tell you straight: I have never voted for or supported the PNC. Your dad on the other hand was quite keen on kissing the hand of Burnham in order to curry preferential favours. Now you trying to appear whiter than white by denouncing your PNC links. It won't wash. And let me point out that you did not pay close attention to who it was that came out of that helicopter. You should have recognized your own family member.

There is nothing wrong with asking for donations to help the community and to contribute to special projects.  It is to whom the money is being given and what they did with it.

What seems too good to be true is too good to be true. All the euphora about 50th anniversary celebration and the cost don't match up. Now we find out that as usual, the govt is squeezing the business community to finance clean up, jump and whine and other extravagances. But maybe this is what the business people deserve, I remember being in Guyana and a few of them were saying that it was good if the PNC get in. Now they got their new masters, let them suffer.
