Minister of Governance Raphael Trotman announced that several investment proposals have been received, by the high-level Government team, which recently met with the Guyanese Diaspora in Canada.

These proposals are within the natural resources and infrastructural development sectors, and are currently being reviewed and considered by the Government.

Minister Trotman, who briefed the media earlier this week on Cabinet’s  recent meetings, stated that, “This visit was a ‘follow- up’, suggested by President David Granger, who on his own, visited Canada in September, after noting the overwhelming willingness of Guyanese in the Diaspora, to return home and be involved in the development process,” he said.

Despite some negative speculations in sections of the media, the Minister indicated that a detailed report is currently being prepared on the number of proposals received for consideration.

“The team reported that it was rather overwhelmed with the number of proposals received, which all show, as I said, the high enthusiasm of Guyanese in the Diaspora, because persons travelled from the United States as well to attend. There is a high expectation of involvement, and they are ready to come and invest in Guyana,” Minister Trotman stated.

The Minister further reported that Cabinet noted the high level of the patriotic enthusiasm that was evident during the visit, and the fact that persons engaged were primarily interested in national issues, and not consumed by the day-to-day things, those “we seem to be so over consumed with from time to time.”

The high- level ministerial delegation to Canada included, First Vice President and Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo, Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan, Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson and Minister of Business and Investment Dominic Gaskin.
