Dual citizenship parliamentarians on the government side will return to the National Assembly despite court rulings that such persons are disqualified from sitting in the House.

Government Chief Whip Amna Ally told Inews: ““I don’t know that there is a court action filed against anyone from attending … so all parliamentarians will be attending Parliament.”

Parliament is set to be reconvened at any moment following the ruling of the Appeal Court on Friday.

Already, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has made it known that it would not be attending sittings of the National Assembly, with Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo announcing on Sunday that the Party would be sitting out sittings while the no-confidence cases still have to be settled.

Article 155 (1) of the Constitution of Guyana states that “No person shall be qualified for election as a member of the National Assembly who (a) is, by virtue of his own act, under any acknowledgement of allegiance, obedience or adherence to a foreign power or state.”

Chief Justice Roxane George-Wiltshire, in her rulings earlier this year, also made it clear that by swearing allegiance to another State, a dual citizen is not qualified to be elected to serve in the National Assembly.

In the Opposition camp, Chief Whip Gail Teixeira (who has Canadian citizenship) has already indicated her willingness to renounce her citizenship. And Jagdeo has publicly said that dual citizens from the Opposition camp would not return to Parliament.

In the case of the Government, Foreign Affairs Minister Carl Greenidge (United Kingdom citizen) and Minister of State, Joseph Harmon (who has United States citizenship) have both failed to say if they would choose Parliament or dual citizenship when the time comes.

PNC Bully ... this is a bad example to our your generation and sad day in the Justice System.

All law abiding citizens should protest and seek overseas sanctions against the government for ignoring a court order for a parliamentary system.

I would like to hear what the government defenders have to say on this one.

The lawlessness and bullying of the PNC continues.  They are taking the country down a dangerous path of destruction.  I wonder what Exxon and the ABC countries think of these barbaric people.

Amazingly you still love Jagdeo even though he let one of his friends kill a PPP minister because that minister refused to assign him rights that he planned to use as a cover for his drug trafficking activities.

You all only object to bullying from one side and hypocritically ignore that from the other.

What relevance is your comments to the subject.

If you have proof Jagdeo is involved in Drugs- let the authorities know, after all ayo want him gone .. so you is a FOOL to stay quiet... what a dummy.

Lots of relevance. Both parties display lawlessness and bullyism and yet you pretend as if the PPP are saints.

When you show objectivity you will have credibility.  If Jagdeo squats and defecates in public you will swear that its perfume instead of a filthy and disgusting act.

President Granger needs to address this issue, all the Dual Citizenship MP's are aware of the law, trying ignorance aren't acceptable.

Prezi should stand by his words.

President Granger in his inauguration speech said,

“I shall be a good President for all the people of Guyana,”

The US authorities already are fully aware of Jagdeo's friendship with Roger Khan and the degree to which he protected RK.  Jagdeo refused the USA to extradite RK.  Jagdeo screamed when the US authorities seized RK with the cooperation of Suriname and T&T.

Emails sent by assorted US ambassadors as revealed in Wikileaks showed that they were loathe to share any drug trafficking related intelligence with Jagdeo because their experience was that the drug traffickers would be told pronto.  And yes everyone knows that Roger Khan killed Sat Sawh because he was refused a land grant.  RK wanted to ship his drugs in timber shipments and Sat Sawh would have none of that.

You are fully aware of this but your tribal instincts causes you to ignore it.  Amna Ally is no where near the bully that Jagdeo is.  She doesn't employ goon squads to attack people who she doesn't like, nor doed she tap people's private phones as Jagdeo also did.

Oi Carib why you derailing the man thread? Nobody saying anything about Jagdeo. Your obsession with him has become creepy, freaky, funky, and spooky.

Did Jagdeo just disappear?  No.  You all don't want to tell the truth about Jagdeo, who is currently running around screaming and king threats, yet you will spend all day wailing about Burnham who died 35 years ago.

Now if you were to tell me that Jagdeo just retired and removed himself from politics he is irrelevant.  But he didn't so he remains relevant to every discussion concerning politics in Guyana.
