Gov’t has concerns with Public Procurement Commission – Irfaan Ali

Minister for Housing, Irfaan Ali said that while the government is committed to the establishment of the Public Procurement Commission [PPC], President Donald Ramotar has some concerns with it, which he has already brought to the attention of Leader of the Opposition, A Partnership for National Unity [APNU], David Grainger.

At the People’s Progressive Party [PPP] press conference today, Monday May 20, Minister Ali explained that the “ball is in the Office of the President court.”

“President Ramotar has made it very clear, even at a recent bilateral between himself and the opposition leader, he is ready, there are a few concerns he has in relation to the Public Procurement Commission and he is ready and I think the ball in the Office of the President court. We are committed to all of this but the President has some concerns and it must be addressed and our concerns are not isolated,” Minister Ali stated.

He explained that the PPP and the opposition had initially submitted the names for the establishment of the PPC and it was agreed that some of the nominees were not relevant.

“As a matter of fact, the parties together decided that some names were not relevant because they had conflict of interest. We see today some of the same names are being submitted.”

A clear sign that the pnc/afc are playing political football here. What they want is to flex their 1 seat muscle in parliament and crow over their destruction of Guyana. Why else would they keep resubmitting names of folks that all agreed had a conflict of interest. The AFc/PNC have been putting up names of people who will be bidding for contracts, you can't have the man bidding for contract on the board that issues the contract.
