Pumping foreign currency into the market will not solve the crisis facing the local economy, according to economist Irfaan Ali.
“It took some time for the Bank of Guyana and Minister of Finance (Winston Jordan) to accept the bitter reality that businesses are unable to access foreign currency and were placed in queues when they approached the cambios. However, as the good book says ‘confession is always good for the soul’,” Ali said in a statement to Guyana Times.

Nehru,
How is the black pudding business doing in Richmond Hill?
I see them people selling it on the pave like they selling drugs.
Why can't they open a business that specializes in the loved Guyanese dish?
I saw that too but rather buy from established Businesses. Kaiteur and a Bakery at 123 and Liberty gat nice Lamb Pudding plus nice Girls working there.
Ali is upset that his bundles of cocaine can no longer leave Guyana through the front door.
The PPP frauds scream daily about all the excellent initiatives of the PPP. Marriott Hotel. Berbice bridge. Skeldon Factory. Providence Stadium. Buddy's Hotel.
Did the PPP use the EU funds to diversify the economy beyond dependence on sugar? Little Dominica makes millions of dollars selling soap to cruise ship lines, this under an initiative which is also available to Guyana.
Know that Venezuela is an enemy of Guyana, even if it isn't of the PPP, did the PPP attempt to use funds received under Petro Caribe to improve the competitiveness of rice so that it could compete in the ample markets available throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. Venezuelans are now eating rats, roaches and stray dogs.
Why does the PPP think that they can buy Guyana rice and actually pay on time? Why will they sell oil in exchange for rice when they need to sell oil for HARD CURRENCY needed to service debt and buy critical imports?
Why did the PPP not insist that there be more value added in the forestry sector instead of the export of tree branches, this being something that almost no other nation allows?
The Indo KKK will jump and scream as is their racist nature that Jagdeo is God, yet the cannot tell us what he did that was so great. 23 years and the Guyana economy is structurally the SAME as it was when they met it!
Plus the very fact that so much real estate in Guyana is priced in US$ shows exactly who are responsible for much of the construction boom of which they boast. Expat Guyanese, and money launderers as the average Guyanese does NOT have Us$!

The only shameless person here is that fat crook who primed his pocket with lucre more than he ever successfully did anything for us. All I say is
"fat boy, how come you could not make it work" when you were in charge? The answer is clear. He was gone a looting...
