Govt to roll out One Laptop Per Teacher project on Wednesday
The Ministry of Public Telecommunications through the eGovernment Agency is collaborating closely with the Ministry of Education on this far-reaching initiative to quickly raise the level of digital literacy country-wide. The programme involves a detailed roll-out throughout the ten administrative regions, starting immediately following Wednesdayβs launch.
This One Laptop per Teacher initiative is driven by the Presidentβs principled position that the government must provide modern research and educational tools to ensure that our children, youth and young professionals receive the most rounded development. This, of course, does not exclude mature adults who are also becoming more familiar with information communication technologies. This, he believes, must begin with proper tutelage in schools and other educational institutions.
As such, President Granger will present new laptop computers to representatives of the teaching fraternity, and the top performers (one percentile) at the 2015 National Grade Six Assessment. Chinaβs Ambassador to Guyana, Hon. Zhang Limin, has also been invited to speak alongside Minister of Education, Dr. Rupert Roopnarine, and Minister of Public Telecommunications, Mrs Catherine Hughes.
