An employee of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) is Sunday thanking her neighbour and God for saving her life from bandits who waylaid her as she was entering her yard early Sunday morning.
"Thank God I am alive. I live good with the neighbours," Cheryl Embrack who is a former employee of the New Guyana Marketing Corporation (NGMC) told Demerara Waves Online News. She was not injured.
She said that a neighbour was awake and saw when the bandits scaled her fence at Grove, East Bank Demerara. The neighbour summoned the police who arrived shortly on the scene, shot one of the bandits and recovered a gun and ammunition."The police came under fire and returned fire during which one of the men was shot and injured and an unlicensed .32 pistol with 10 matching rounds was recovered," police said.
The injured bandit has been identified as Devon Forde, 21 years, of Stevedore Housing Scheme, Georgetown. He has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he is under guard. His accomplice managed to escape.
Investigators were told that at about 3 AM Sunday December 13, 2015, Embrack, 50 years, of Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara was entering her home when she was attacked by the two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The men took her into the house and took away a stereo set and a cell phone. Embrack said they also stole GYD$5,000.
"While the robbery was in progress neighbouring residents informed the police who responded and encountered the perpetrators as they were leaving the scene," said the police in a statement.
