Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, Brigadier David Granger speaking at a rally organised by the Guyana Youth and Students Movement (GYSM) at the Stabroek Market
square berated the Guyana Police Force over what he described as its 'murder' of over 288 persons in the past 17 years.
Whats worrying though is the concern being shown by Granger for the members of the notorious 'Freedom Fighter' gangs that were led separately by Andrew Douglas at first then Rondell "Fineman' Rawlings. Included in Granger's list of 288 persons are many of these gang members and other notorious bandits killed in shoot-outs with police. Both gangs which unleashed terror during separate periods of reign were responsible for numerous murders. Many policemen were killed on duty and off duty while a number of persons were either kidnapped and killed, executed in cold blood or killed during a series of robbery sprees. The 'Fineman Gang' was responsible for massacres at Lusignan, Bartica, Lindo Creek & Agricola.

An observer has noted that Granger's unwillingness to make a distinction between justifiable and non-justifiable police killings comes as no surprise as his party, the People's National Congress Reform(PNCR) has always been stern in its defense of criminals whom it shared a healthy relationship with. Immediately coming to mind is the case where former President and PNC leader Desmond Hoyte paid glowing tribute at the funeral of wanted man Linden 'Blackie' London and then there was the case in 2005 where guns belonging to the GDF that were issued to the PNC were found intact and in use by criminals caught in Berbice.
