[www.inewsguyana.com] – Leader of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), David Granger is of the view that the May 2015 general and regional elections will not be fair, as he accused the ruling People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) of abusing state resources for its elections campaign.

Hours after President Donald Ramotar announced May 11 as the election date on Tuesday, January 20 a video advertisement was launched with the President telling the Guyanese people why they should vote for the PPP.

During an impromptu interview with some Reporters at his office on Wednesday, January, 21, Granger pointed out the unfairness in the elections campaign by the PPP.

“The widespread abuse of state resources to propel the PPP’s campaign, for example the use of aircraft and for persons travelling in the hinterland, the use of the state media to promote the PPP’s message and to use those state media to attack me personally and to attack A Partnership for National Unity and the Alliance for Change. So we feel that these factors will contribute to an uneven playing field and so it means that the elections will be unfair,” Granger explained.

The Opposition Leader noted that something must be done to bring this type of unethical behavior to an end. He believes that the ruling Party started off its campaigning tactic on the wrong foot.

“They have issued a press release stating that if Granger were to be elected President, Demerara River would run red with blood, flyers have appeared showing photography of me alongside Adolf Hitler and Sadam Hussein.”

Sharing similar concerns is the Alliance for Change (AFC), which had stated that the government would continue to spend public funds without parliamentary approval or scrutiny.

The AFC says there are justifiable fears that the regime would continue to abuse these funds for elections campaign, as well as other state resources including the media and vehicles.

To this end, the Party urged the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to urgently publish guidelines against abuse of state resources.
