Granger’s awardee wins zero seats in Barbados Parliament

citizensreport.gy

Former Prime Minister of Barbados, Freundel Stuart, rumoured to be a close friend of Guyanese President, David Granger, lost the country’s elections in a landslide victory to the Barbados Labour Party.

Stuart’s party, the Democratic Labour Party, won no seats in the elections.

Stuart’s party governed the country since 2008 and reports in the Barbadian press is that he was not a well liked leader.

Granger had given Stuart the Order of Roraima Award in 2016. The Order of Roraima is one of Guyana’s most prestigious awards for distinguished individuals. It is the country’s second highest award.

Stuart’s Government was heavily criticised of imposing a high taxation regime which saw the cost of living in the country skyrocketing.

The BLP’s Mia Mottley won all 30 seats in the Caribbean island’s Parliament. Mottley, a former Minister and Attorney General, will become the first female Prime Minister since independence from Britain in 1966.

The BLP’s Mia Mottley won all 30 seats in the Caribbean island’s Parliament.

To say this was a landslide victory would be an understatement. This can happen in Guyana if the elections are not monitored...just like the days of Forbes and Hoyte.

I think Mia Mottley won fairly and squarely.  The problem with having all 30 seats is that public policy will always be in the Govt favor.  Sometimes you need a good Opposition to shake things up.
