A President who does not pay any tax is ordering the people he governs to pay more tax.

Since assumption of office as president, David Granger would have taken home approximately $50m from his salary - a sum which excludes any of the additional significant sums he would have obtained from frequent overseas trips. Most importantly, however, Granger has not paid a single penny in income tax yet he orders by law that the Guyanese people have to pay more and higher taxes. As simply as he has caused laws to be passed for Guyanese people to pay more and higher taxes he could have passed a law for his salary to be taxed just like every other Guyanese. This is the definition of duplicitous double standards.

Prior to May 2015, Granger made every possible promise under the sun to the Guyanese people in order to get elected – tuition free university for all students, guaranteed jobs for graduates within twelve (12) months of graduation, no more blackouts, no more floods, significant reduction in crime, minimum wage at $100,000 etc. but not once did he ever mention to the Guyanese people anything about paying more and/or higher taxes (over 200 more taxes and some in thousand percentile increases). Nor, incidentally, did he ever mention once prior to his assumption of the office of presidency anything about his intention to increase ministerial and crony salaries and expenses if he becomes president. In fact, prior to his assumption of office, many of the chronic issues facing Guyana like crime, poverty and job creation, seemed to be described by him as an easy fix. Since becoming president, however, not only have these promises disappeared from the agenda but we now have the most expensive government in the history of our nation and Guyanese people are now the most taxed in the history of our nation.

From Granger’s salary and trips all around the world leaving aside the excessive security detail to protect him from a public which purportedly loves him so much it certainly seems like president Granger is enjoying β€œthe good life” but can the ordinary citizen he governs say that they have seen any increase in their standard of living in the last two years? By all measures the answer is no.

In the end it boils down to one thing - why should Guyanese be made to pay more and higher taxes by a president who does not pay a single penny in tax? What is good for the goose is good for the gander!

Both side took the fat check.  Not only Granger.

It is a tragedy that a President can collect G$2.4 million a month from such a poor country.

I have always disagree how Guyana a poor r@ss country can afford such high Presidential salaries.

Well, your AFC/PNC campaigned to end the high salaries and they themselves became fatter hogs.

Why don't you contact Granger and Moses and ask them to put an end to the outrageous President and PM's salary ?

A well known Hindu ascetic in this forum, #22, always affirms: Money talks and BS walks. Bhaiya, the moneymen Granger and Moses will tell our poor Django: Move away with your BS. Scram.

Gilly bhai, nah worry wid money. If you gat money and you mind nah kleen, you are just a POS on this earth. Always try to help your unfortunate brother and sister.

Djangy got his nose so far up Granger's ass that he can't see daylight.

Banna you need to stop making a fool of yourself, you were asked which individual raised the Presidents salary, you ran and hide suddenly came back and wrote the nonsense above, maybe the asses you are sniffing screw your brain.

Like I said, you are so accustomed to the dry shyte smell that you cannot smell a rat.  Granger et al gave themselves big raises and tax free to boot, meanwhile the economy in free fall.  The PNC/AFC crooks you support ran on a platform of being against fat cats but then they turned out to be the biggest fat cats.

Given the US minimum wage at $7.25/hr and the President's Salary at $400,000, The US President is making approximately 26.5 times the minimum wage based on a 40 hour week. In Guyana however, based on a $50,000 month minimum wage, the president is making 36 times that. Doesn't take a genius to figure something is wrong and that salaries PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE need to be revised. Finger pointing needs to stop and like I said before, this "our turn" shit has to stop.

So let Granger and his Minister's take a 30% shave?  And then you will come in line with one of the most wealthy country of the world.

The US economy is 6000 times the Guyana economy but the president salary is only 4 times higher than Granger's.

Exactly my point. They want to emulate the US. Their salaries need to be cut more than 30%. All raises be commensurate with inflation.
