Leader of the Peopleβs National Congress(PNC) which now calls itself A Partnership for National Unity(APNU), David Granger once again refused to apologize for the excesses of his party whilst in government. The issue of an apology recently raised its head during a visit to the Richmond Hill area in New York.
The area is one where the ruling People's Progressive Party(PPP) garners significant support and claims that Granger's visit was nothing more than a public relations stunt were given credence when he refused to apologize for the past misdeeds of the PNC. The issue attracted the attention of several letter writers in the local newspapers and Granger once again reaffirmed his position on the matter during a recent APNU press conference.
Granger, whose role during the PNC dictatorship has also been questioned, was named as the Army Officer in liaison with the Guyana Police Force (GPF) when the police investigated former Army Sergeant Gregory Smith as a suspect in the bomb-blast assassination of world-renowned Guyanese scholar, Dr Walter Rodney. This revelation was made during the testimony of ex-Army Chief, Major General Norman McLean at the Commission of Inquiry investigating Dr Rodneyβs death.
