GTT Tapeball Competition… Kishan Persaud leads Eccles All Stars to title and $200,000 prize

Led by a match winning innings of 52 from Kishan Persaud, Eccles All Stars emerged champions of the GTT Tapeball Competition, defeating Specialists by six runs in the final on Sunday night last under lights at the National Park Tarmac.

Batting first in the 5-over 7-a-side competition which attracted teams from the City, East Bank, East Coast, West Bank and West Coast Demerara, Eccles racked up a challenging 93-3 off their 5-overs led by Persaud’s 52.
While the total was a big ask, the motivation of pocketing the top prize of $200,000 was all that was needed, given the fact too that the teams have been aiming for this over three weekends now.
However, in the end, Specialists could only manage 87-4 which meant that they ended up losers in a close contest. Their top scorer was Renaldo Renee who made 30.
The Most Valuable Player of the tournament was Ruimveldt Sports Club’s Ershaad Ali who accumulated 242 runs, whilst grabbing 6 wickets in the competition overall. The highest Individual score of the competition was achieved by Aamir Khan who blasted 85.
Ruimveldt Sports Club stormed to the third prize and trophy on account of a 5-wicket win over Modern Media. Ruimveldt raced to 48-1 on account of MVP Ershaad Ali’s undefeated 44 replying to Modern Media’s 46-1; A. Wasim made 28 not out.
In the semi finals, Eccles All Stars made light work Modern Media by 16 runs. The champs posted 74-1 with Andy Lall hitting 29. Modern Media in response were restricted to 58-3, Karamchand Persaud top scored with 31.
And Specialists coasted to victory over Ruimveldt Sports Club by three wickets; the latter took to the crease first and racked up 81-3 led by Earl Gilkes’ 49 not out.
In reply, Ryan Adams’ unbeaten 46 shaped victory for Specialists which lost three wickets along the way.
Romping to victory in the Female competition was 4R Lioness ‘A’ Team which defeated their ‘B’ Team. Latoya Smith lashed an unbeaten 34 in the ‘A’ Teams winning chase of 37-0 responding to the ‘B’ counterparts 36-4 to win by a commanding 6-wivckets.
In the lone semi final, 4R Lioness ‘A’ posted 80-2, Smith leading the way with 33 not out.
Trophy Stall Angels limped to 53-3 in reply with June Ogle hitting 21 as they lost by 27 runs.
