Gunmen beat ExxonMobil Director in his home, rob and terrorise family

Five gunmen escaped with cash and jewellery around 02:30 hrs yesterday after beating an ExxonMobil official in his Lot 375 Republic Park, East Bank Demerara home and threatening to kill his baby daughter.
Police identified the official as Robert Albiez, the 43-year-old Financial Director at Guyana Shore Base (Exxon Mobil) which is located at Houston, East Bank Demerara.
The gunmen escaped with US$200, a diamond and gold wedding band; nine gold finger rings; a silver Fossil wrist watch valued US$200; a pair of diamond and gold earrings valued US$2000; a silver bracelet valued US$1000, a Russian Passport and a laptop.
Police said the bandits gained entry to the two-storey property by prising open an eastern door and cutting off the padlock.
According to reports, Mr. Albiez retired to bed with his 30-year-old wife and their 10- month-old daughter around 22:00hrs on Tuesday, after securing the premises and activating an alarm.
About 02:30hrs yesterday, he was awakened by the sound of his security alarm. When he got up to switch it off, a male intruder confronted him.
Albiez scuffled with the intruder, but was the struck on the back of his head. Four other men, including two with handguns, confronted him.
They then held his wife and baby daughter at gunpoint while demanding that he hand over his money and threatening to kill his 10-month-old.
The intruders removed money, jewellery and other documents from a bedroom before escaping through the eastern glass door.
Police arrived at the scene some ten minutes later.
