Gunmen storm McDoom gas station in daring robbery…1 in custody
Three armed gunmen stormed the Shell Fuel Station at McDoom, East Bank Demerara (EBD), in the wee hours this morning robbing employees of GYD $51,000 in cash and a cellular phone.
According to the police, the trio held up the security guard on duty and the fuel station’s three female employees around 02:30h.
However, while executing the daring robbery, ranks on patrol were notified of the incident and promptly responded at the scene. Upon arrival at the location, the gunmen discharged rounds at the police, who in return fired at the gunmen.
During the cross fire between the police and the bandits, it is said that one of the perpetrators was shot. The perpetrators managed to escape from the fuel station and headed into the McDoom village.
However, police ranks, in hot pursuit were able to nab one of the three gunmen.
INews understands that acting upon information received, the officers carried out a search on a house in McDoom where they discovered an unlicensed 9mm Glock pistol with 35 matching rounds and 26 of the .32 rounds.
At present the lone gunman who was caught is said to be in police custody assisting with investigations. This is not the first time that the Shell Fuel Station at McDoom has been targeted by bandits.
