Guyana and Chinese company sign agreement for the procurement of 27,00 laptops

The Government of Guyana and the Chinese government have inked an agreement for the procurement of 27,000 Haier laptops under the one laptop per family project. President Bharrat Jagdeo who witnessed the signing of the contract at his office a few hours ago commended the Chinese government for its support in the government’s developmental efforts.
The contract was signed for the procurement of 27,000 laptops to the tune of US$7.56M which will be ready before the last week in October. President Jagdeo in his brief remarks deemed the event as an important one as the government is striving to ensure all Guyanese are computer literate within the next two years and connected to the internet.
He made reference to china’s ongoing support for Guyana’s developmental drive. Dr. Jagdeo underscored the gains that would be derived from access to information through the OLPF. He expressed satisfaction with the number of participants from the second bid.
Haier Company, a globally recognised one has offered an extended warrantee for 18 months as against the governments’ proposal of 12 months. General Director of Key Projects Mr. Sun Yongle disclosed that the company’s intention is to set up a local office here to execute the project.
Haier electrical appliances, Chinese company won the bid for the supply of 27, 000 laptops under the governments’ one laptop per family project in the second round of the bid. Haier was one of the three companies which ranked the highest of the bidders for the supply of laptops during the tendering process.
