The Guyana Female Under-19 team lifted the Cricket West Indies Regional Female Under-19 tournament title by defeating Trinidad and Tobago in the finals. The tournament which commenced on August 3rd, witnessed Guyana concluding the preliminary rounds with an astounding tally of 10 points, no losses, to place them on top of the points table along with Trinidad and Tobago. The final, which was played on Sunday last at the National Cricket Centre, saw Guyana facing Trinidad and Tobago for the Championship honour. Guyana won the toss and in deciding to field, restricted Trinidad and Tobago to 94 for 9 off the allotted 20 overs. R. Boyce top scored for Trinidad and Tobago with 33 off 40 balls and R. Dookie 22 from 20 balls. Bowling for Guyana, Plaffiana Millington picked up 4 wickets for 17 runs and Mandy Mangru 2 wickets for 8 runs to be the leading performers. Guyana in reply scored 86 for 3 in 17.2 overs, winning the tournament by 7 wickets on DLS (Duck Worth Lewis System). Mandy Mangru claimed the Player of the Match award with a top score of 34 runs off 36 balls. Sheneta Grimmond contributed with 11 runs off 21 balls and Captain, Shabika Gajnabi 20 off 36 balls. Bowling for Trinidad A. Ramoutar picked up 3 wickets for 17. The win against Trinidad and Tobago gave the Guyana Female Under-19 their first Regional Championship title. The champions returned to home yesterday. The Guyana Cricket Board is extending congratulations to the young girls and express confidence that local women cricket is on the move to match their male counterparts.
