The Guyana Badminton Team has broken the barrier and are in 4-finals of the Caribbean Regional & International Badminton Championships currently being played at the National Racket Centre in Tacarigua, Trinidad.
The day started with the Opening Ceremony before the games started. The Guyana High Commissioner Mr. Camey Ramsaroop and members of the Guyana Consulate were present and also interacted with the Guyanese Team. On Saturday, Guyana Juniors Players: Priyanna Ramdhani in Singles, Doubles & Mixed Doubles Under-17 Finals, Tyrese Jeffrey in Mixed Doubles Under-17 Finals with Priyanna and Ambika Ramraj in Girls Doubles Under-19 Finals, all advance.
Under-17 Girls Doubles Semi-Finals: Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY) & Imani Mangroe (SUR) defeated Shania Lee & Eban Sandy (TRI): 21-3, 21-3
Under-17 Mixed Doubles Semi-Finals: Priyanna Ramdhani & Tyrese Jeffrey defeated Power House Jamaicans Mikhael Williams & Shezelle Mctyson in a thrilling three setter with Guyana losing the first game at 16-21 and winning the second at 21-12, and the third to take the match at 24-22. During the third match with the scores at 20-20, Priyanna played a diving shot and sprained her three fingers on her left hand but this did not stop her determination to play on and won the game at 22-20.
Under-17 Boys Doubles Semi-Finals: Tyrese Jeffrey & Akili Haynes (GUY) lost to Jamaicans Jair Naipal & Geordan Tjon Kon Joen in a thrilling three setter: 21-17, 7-21, 21-19
Under-19 Boys Doubles Semi-Finals: Jonathan Mangra (GUY) & Cesar Brito (DOM) lost to Shae Martin & Keshem Moore (BAR): 21-11, 21-14
MASTERS OVER-45 DOUBLES ROUND ROBIN: Gokarn Ramdhani & Dr. Nicholas Waldron won one Match out of Three against the Trinidad pairs. Won against: Andre Lewis & Derek Singh: 21-18, 21-18 Lost to: Christopher Joachim & Arnand Maharaj:21-16, 27-25 Lost to: Sheraz Khan & Allan Young: 14-21, 21-13, 21-13
Points System will determined the outcome of the winners.
The Tournament continued yesterday with the Finals and Presentation for the First Part of the Carebaco Regional Badminton Championships Under-11 to 19 Championships open to all Caribbean Countries.
