Contrary to D2's claim that Guyana is not a democracy, I respectfully disagree.
What is democracy? Democracy as a system of government with four key elements:
1) A political system for choosing and replacing the government through free and fair elections.
2) The active participation of the people, as citizens, in politics and civic life.
3) Protection of the human rights of all citizens.
4) A rule of law, in which the laws and procedures apply equally to all citizens.
Guyana is a democracy by the following accounts.
1) Guyana has free and fair elections.
2) Guyana has freedom of speech.
3) Guyana had freedom of information and press.
4) Guyana has freedom of movements.
5) Guyana in a country of law and order.
Cobra's Note: Guyana is a democracy. If the people don't want to excercise their rights to hold their government accountable is not the system fault. Dr. Cheddi B. Jagan must be credited for the freedom we enjoy since 1992. Let's not forget that! Anytime, someone open their mouth to babble about politics, that is freedom of speech.
The only thing I am discontent with is the daily bribery. The citizens of Guyana created this nasty habit to bribe their way through everything.
