As the world observes international day of forests and trees, Guyana is celebrating its achievements in protecting and preserving its forests.

Speaking at a ceremony at Umana Yana to mark the United Nations designated day, Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment Robert Persaud says Guyana must be proud of the efforts made to ensure sustainable use of its forests.

The Minister alluded to the low carbon development strategy which is recognized internationally.

Meanwhile, representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Dr. Lystra Fletcher Paul hailed Guyana’s forest policy and signaled her organizations’ continued support towards this end.

Congratulations to president Bharat Jagdeo for making Guyana champion the world in its (LCDS) program. Let's all celebrate the achievements in protecting and preserving our forests.
