Jamaica doesnt have a national carrier.  Neither does the Dominican Rep or Barbados.  All enjoy much larger travel markets than Guyana.

Guyana ought to focus on attracting more airlines and stop thinking that some inefficient, one plane operation, sure to collapse within two years, is the answer.

We had GAC, GA 2000, Leisure, Universal, Constellation, Travel Span, and now EZ jet, all dead within the last 22 YEARS!

I dont know why they think that an airport with multiple gates, way in excess of what GEO needs will interest new carriers.

Guyana has jet fuel that is way more expensive than in other parts of the Caribbean.  It is the longest flight and so more fuel is guzzled and so it becomes a problem.  CAL can deal with this because they get a subsidy from T&T.  Others will not tolerate this.

Maybe the GY govt ought to remove any taxes that it levies on jet fuel, as I suspect that DL requested.  Be assured that the cancelation of DL service to GEO has been noted by other US carriers.

Also GEO only has a market to the Caribbean and to Canada and the USA.  No large jets are needed, and none will be used because no airline flying between the Caribbean and North Am use this planes.

GEO has no market opportunities on long distance routes and having a huge airport way beyond what Guyana needs will not change this.

Really they need to save the excess money and spend it on improving transportation to the interior.  Why not surface the Linden to Rupununi road, with Brazil pumping in most of the $$$ needed?  They have expertise in building highways in similar terrain and so can easily handle this.

Honest fact is that this grand new airport is just anotehr excuse for corruption.  GEO expansion needs are much less and can be handled at much lowr cost.  We will remain an airport getting 767s at maximum.  I do not see GEO ever attracting BA as we do not have a UK market, and will never have one to justify the added costs to BA of serving GEO (two crews needed...one to the first Caribbean stop, and the other to ferry the plane from there to GEO and back to that stop).
