Guyana is poised to be at the top of most Caribbean Countries ,the politicians need to stop the infighting . The country have enough for everyone.

Leadership makes the difference. Is either you go forward or backward. We were told that Guyana maybe another African oil nation where greed takes precedent over everything. I foresee it is going down that path.

Not necessary an African oil nation, but an oil nation.

Unfortunately, both governments seems to serve themselves and I doubt whether there is a Robin Hood in the pack.

Two things. I believe the PPP has learned their lessons and the PPP has a better vision for Guyana. I am not endorsing them but from facts gathered, they have earned the economic confidence of businesses and citizens to build and modernized Guyana. Not discounting they steal as well. I think they can put some of the major projects to fruition if given a chance.

Where do we re-start  from, we lost our bearings when we choose our path to self determination. During the colonial period we were top of the game and many were critical of those who felt they possessed the leadership for an independent Guiana. The leadership of the time were anarchist-destruction of the status quo was their agenda. Whilst the Caribbean uphold a system, we in Guyana destroyed ours. It was always confrontational, boycotts and opposition for opposing sake. The end result is David Granger, hopefully it is the end.

A fresh start does not have its foundation. And they better not use BK to build one, it wuld be defective.

There is no peace for the wicked.

Guyana agriculture has been in a decline for years. What we have is mainly subsistence farming. People quite contented to wait for the foreign remittances while lying in their hammocks. Many products that can be grown and produced locally are imported.

Interesting that u said this. Took a cab from Penn station to work one morning driven by a Nigerian fellow. He said that one of the reasons why his country went down in the dumps even with all the oil was because they imported everything and neglected locally grown products.

One of the disadvantages of winning a lottery ticket. You are given riches that you cannot handle properly. When the money is gone due to mis-handling of your wealth, you become worse than you were, before the winning.

Since Sash Sawh died, Agriculture has been on the decline. But it can be revived, if they use machinery to harvest cane.

They should give more lands to the farmers.

Can you temper your language ?

Guyana went from the Mountain Top to Pure Kaka in 5 years. When you give Pigs, Rats and Donkeys to run a Country that is progress!!!

What is offensive in his statement? Is it offensive because he is insulting the PNC? Posters have done much worse to the PPP on this site and no one ever blinked. Did someone lodge a complaint about this? Man, it's getting like daycare here now...below kindergarten.

Some people in Berbice worked at Skeldon with field machinery to harvest the cane, before the factory closed.  There are disadvantages with heavy machinery in the field, compare to cutting by hand. It cost more for preparation to replant every time. Plus machines break down often and  the cane dry too much in the field, before taken to the factory.

During the 1960s private farmers, including relatives,  grow cane that they sold to the estates and it was very successful.

In Skeldon, there were some cane farmers. After the factory closed, all the cane farmers had to abandon their farms. There are hundreds of thousands of acres of cane still sitting in the fields in Skeldon. Skeldon and heavy cane harvesting equipment. The problem is that the machine could not go down by the sideline beds to harvest the cane.

The breadbasket of the Caribbean. Will Guyana regain its status to providing essential foods that sustain life in the region or will it become a dependent nation holding a begging basket to the world?

Can u provide proof that Guyana was once the breadbasket of the Caribbean? Since I was growing up, this was always the talk. It would be nice to know this was a fact indeed, but Show me evidence of this.

Btw, Nice handle. ( viper ) me might like dis wan. 😃 😃. Or maybe not.
