Guyana refuses USβ request to facilitate radio broadcasts to Venezuela
Posted by: Denis Chabrol in Elections, News, Politics July 17, 2020 12 Comments
Guyanaβs President David Granger late Friday said his administration rejected a request by the United States (US) to use the medium wave radio frequencies of this South American nation to broadcast Voice of America programmes to Venezuela.
Mr. Granger said Guyana turned down the request because of security, health and political risks that Guyana could expose itself to with Venezuela which is claiming the Essequibo Region that makes up about two-thirds of this former British colony.
βGiven the length of an unpoliced western border, the influx of refugees, the unsettled territorial question and the public health risks, it would not be in our national interest to do anything to contribute to destabilising relations at this time,β the President said.
A US Embassy spokeswoman said the American government was no longer interested in the project. β The U.S Agency for Global Media is not actively considering this anymore. It is important that the people of Venezuela have access to uncensored news from credible Venezuelan and international journalistic news sources. Guyana has shown leadership in the past, in defense of representative government by joining other Lima Group members from the Americas to strive for a democratic resolution to the crisis in Venezuela,β she said.

Granger playing wrong and strong!!!
Well it looks like Granger is holding out and hoping that Venezuela will come to his rescue.
Big mistake. Granger and the PNC cabal are now anti American. Uncle Sam will crush his behind.

Venezuela needs to come to its own rescue first. Don't see that happening anytime soon. And just so u know, if venezuela is coming, it's not on any rescue mission. π π.
The PNC has a way of contradicting themselves, even if they purport to support whatβs right.
Burnham condemned and campaigned against Apartheid in South Africa yet practiced much of the same in Guyana. Few years ago Granger joined the US in condemning the Venezuelan elections. Today he rebuffed the US so he can justify non-interference in electoral fraud in Guyana.
The decision by the Guyana Government clearly shows that they do not know how to do business.
Why would the US which imposed sanctions on the De facto Govt. of Guyana want to request use of radio frequencies to broadcast VOA to venezuela. Something doesn't ring right here.

You have to view it sequentially. VOA request was in April. Sanctions started in July. Put 2 and 2 now.

They imposed sanctions on those who undermine democracy, not the Government. They should take up the US government's offer because the Venezuelans would not hesitate to invade Essequibo. Guyana would need help from the US.

Ok. Now this makes sense. Thanks Gilly.
