Bastille Day remains an inspiration for revolutionaries all over the world to fight against autocratic and authoritarian rule. In a small way, we too had our "Bastille day" on May 11 when Guyana changed government after 23 years at free and fair elections - Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo at July 14 celebration of France's National Day. At left is French Ambassador Michele Prom.

A procession comprising PPP and WPA activists protesting against the arrest of Dr Walter Rodney and Dr Rupert Roopnarain was violently dispersed by House of Israel hooligans who killed Jesuit priest Bernard Darke and injured others.
    Yes, Guyana has had its share of mini Bastille Days and we must never let them fade into oblivion.
