The Flag Raising Ceremony for Guyana’s 49th Anniversary as Republic started early last Friday night, with thousands Guyanese flocking the stands of D’Urban Park.

Government ministers, officials, ambassadors and other dignitaries were there to witness the traditional hoisting of the Golden Arrowhead.
The event started with performances by several talented Guyanese celebrities, including two-time Carib Soca Monarch and 2019 winner, Brandon Harding; and Carib Chutney Monarch, Steven Ramphal.
The formal ceremony started with the National Guard, comprising ranks from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), the National Cadets and National Coast Guard, marching across the field, and standing at attention, to await the arrival of the President and Prime Minister.

Festivities continued until midnight, when the Golden Arrowhead was hoisted amidst cheers and fireworks.
President Granger said, “Everyone wins when the nation is united. Let us work together to ensure that our country remains secure, our economy is stable and that everyone is safe and could enjoy a good life.”
