RAYAD Hussain and Farzana Hussain, representing Guyana at the World Mixed Curling Championship in Sweden, won their third consecutive game at the event, beating Brazil 6-3 in their latest Group E round-robin action.
Behind the Hussain siblings, Guyana is making an international debut in the sport and the pair won their first game at the event against Austria then followed up that victory with an impressive 11-4 whipping of Ireland.
The Guyana team then showed that despite being a tropical country, they belong on the international Curling arena when they outclassed the Brazilian duo of Aline Goncalves and Marcio Cerquinho (6-3).
After the game, Rayad Hussain told reporters, βI was really nervous for the whole game. Probably didnβt play my best game but really, really happy we won. I mean, itβs history right. And who wouldnβt want to make history? I think now we have more of an appreciation of what itβs like playing in an arena. Hopefully for future years weβll use this as a learning experience and get better.β
Sitting fourth behind leaders Canada and second-place Korea in their group and eyeing qualification to the knockout stage, Guyana will next face the Czech Republic (currently third) in a bid to keep their historic run alive.
