Kitty execution-style attempt…Female

victim likely to be paralyzed for life

May 24, 2014 | By | Filed Under News

While investigations into the shooting of Susan Da Silva, the 26-year-old woman who was shot twice last Saturday at Garnett Street, Campbellville, are ongoing, a relative confirmed that the young woman is likely to be paralyzed for the rest of her life.
This is as a result of the gunshot wound she sustained to her back.
The David Street, Subryanville resident is currently hospitalised at the Intensive Care Unit at a private hospital under police guard after being shot twice, once to her left arm and once to her back, by four gunmen.
The bullet which was lodged in her spine was removed by doctors on Sunday last.
According to the relative, medical personnel at the hospital informed family members that the woman will most likely be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life.
β€œThe doctors say after three years if she gets any movement in her legs then there is hope, but if there is no movement, she will be paralyzed for the rest of her life,” the relative told this publication.
She added that Da Silva is not aware of the severity of her injury.
β€œWe don’t know how to tell her that she wouldn’t be able to walk for the rest of her life. Right now she can’t walk and she knows that, but she doesn’t know she will most likely be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life,” the relative added.
Kaieteur News was told that minutes after the woman was wounded, she complained about not having any feelings from the waist down.
Recalling what happened, the relative explained that Da Silva, who was taking her mother to the airport, stopped at a relative’s home around 02:55 hrs to pick up two family members who were also leaving the country.
β€œSince she (Da Silva) left her home she noticed this car parked not far from where she lives. She drove off and noticed the parked car drive off too, but the car then disappeared from her view. It appeared at the back of her when she stopped at Garnett Street.”
She said when the woman noticed the car, she drove away and the men discharged two rounds at her. She reportedly lost control and ended up in a yard, breaking the fence and a stairway.
β€œWhen she drove into the yard, the shooters stopped in the middle of the road and the driver came out with another tall man and they fired about four shots at her and then they escape,” the relative explained.
The woman was immediately rushed to the hospital where she remains a patient.
According to a source, investigators have no clue as to who may want to kill the woman who works with her father at his stall at the Stabroek Market.
However, they believe that the shooting was an inside job since Da Silva’s shooters were well equipped with information as it relates to her timings and whereabouts.
Investigations are ongoing.

Man, 23, kills paramour, 14, hangs self

June 6, 2014 | By | Filed Under News

Double tragedy struck early yesterday morning in the quiet community of Sisters’ Village, East Bank, Berbice.
The lifeless bodies of two young people – one very outgoing and talkative, and the other, very shy and reservedβ€” were found, meters apart in their respective backyards near mango trees. Found with a knife in her chest was Latoya Adams, 14, of Sisters’ Village. Her body also bore another incision on her throat. She was a Third Form student of the Berbice Educational Institute (BEI). suicide a
Across the road, the body of her 23-year-old boyfriend, Kellon β€˜Gadget’ Sam, was found hanging from a rope attached to a mango tree at his Lot 18, Sisters’ Village backyard. He bore no wounds about his body. The two had shared a relationship for the past year.
None of the two individuals spent Wednesday night at their homes. Adams ingested an overdose of tablets about a year ago for the boy and ended up in the New Amsterdam Hospital for several days.
Screams and loud wailing pervaded the rainy atmosphere as the body of Kellon Sam was removed from the yard. There was chaos as his mother, aunts and other relatives screamed and threw themselves on the road as the undertakers pushed the body into the hearse.
Kellon’s brother, Colville stated that a neighbour, Oddoo, made the gruesome discovery around 06:00 hrs. β€œI come home from work at midnight and the neighbour called me this morning when I wake up and said somebody hang themself by our backyard. I called my father and everyone run at the back.”
He last spoke to his brother Wednesday morning, β€œand he was vex about something because I told him to leave some food for me to carry to work. I asked he why he behaving so, and then he started to quiet down.”
He added that Kellon was dealing with lots of problems including being suddenly laid off by the Caricom Cement Bagging Company on East Bank Berbice a week ago and that he was under a lot of financial pressure and stress.
When asked about the kind of friendship he and the 14-year-old shared, he added that it was a normal friendship, β€œnormal gaffing…I can’t really say…she never came here.”
His mother said that she came from work around 16:00 hrs on Wednesday. β€œThey [Caricom Cement Company] knock he off without a cause and like he take on this thing, so from since then he sleeping on the road (by friends). So I said, β€˜Kellon you will end up in problems’.
β€œHe came in Wednesday afternoon, he bathe and go out. He don’t stay in here; he left and he go away.”
She added that her son asked her to leave the door open for him [in the night]. This morning [Thursday] I wake up and I see my son clothes down there, and noticed the [clothes] line missing. I asked Kerwin where it was and he said Kellon gone with it.”
It was then she made the shocking discovery.
β€œMe son is an easy child. He get problems, he do not talk; he does keep it in,” she said.  She admitted he and Adams were close friends, β€œbut I don’t know if they had any problems or what because like he does go over at another girl. I don’t know if she [Latoya] knew and they quarreled.”
β€œLook what Kellon do to me,” she wailed on her patio floor. She added that her son had been in previous relationships with girls. β€œParents talk to your boy and girl children when they get problems,” she cried.
Her son never entertained the idea of suicide, she added.
Sam leaves to mourn his mother, Jacqueline, father, Gordon and siblings, Kerwin, Reyon, and Travis.
Loud wailing and screaming, too, were heard as the body of Latoya Adams was put in the same hearse. Her father, Robert Adams, said that they adopted the child from abusive parents at age six.
He added that Latoya never came home the night before, and they searched frantically for her. Her mother, Maureen Adams, was not in a state of mind to speak. She only said that she discovered the body around 06:30 hrs.
β€œI talk to the police already, I ain’t able talk too much…I weary talk,” she said.  She last spoke to her daughter Wednesday afternoon shortly before she left for work at the local health centre in the area. Her daughter seemed normal.
She and other family members were tight- lipped about the level of friendship her daughter shared with Sam. Latoya attended school on Wednesday after which she came home and β€œsoaked down a load of clothes to wash” then left. That was the last she saw of her.
The girl’s father said that she was an avid churchgoer. She was a choir member of the All Saints’ Presbyterian Church in New Amsterdam. He last spoke with her on Wednesday morning and everything seemed fine, too.
When asked if anyone in the village saw her on Wednesday night, Adams said, β€œSomeone said they saw her going up the road.”
”Around 19:30 hrs, I say to myself, β€˜up to now this girl ain’t come back’. The light was on in her room so I took off the light and came downstairs and told my wife I didn’t see her.”
He said she was a very talkative girl, β€œshe used to go Scotts’ Churchβ€”singing.”
Neighbours of Adams were also tight-lipped about the relationship the girl shared with the now dead Kellon Sam. They were also reluctant to say if the two shared a violent or abusive relationship.
Both bodies are at the Arokium Funeral Home awaiting autopsies.

just after classes were over for the day. Speaking with Kaieteur News the distraught teacher, Miss Shevon Brewster related a series of events leading up to her terrifying experience. According to Ms Brewster she dismissed classes around 15:00 hours, but some of her class were not finished writing their work. They stayed back to finish and copy their home work. β€œThis guy came to my door and said β€˜good afternoon miss. I always admire you.’ I asked if he came for somebody and he said no and walked away. He then came back to the class and said that he came to collect Junior and I said we don’t have any Junior here. β€œHe asked me how I know that and I said that I am the class teacher and I have no Junior here. He sucked his teeth and left.” The teacher said that the man, whom she described as short, came back again to the classroom, passed and went to the back of the building with a taller person. β€œSo I peeped out to see what they were doing and I saw them looking at the fence. I went back in the class to hurry the children up. That is when the short one scrambled me with a knife and asked me where my bag is? I said I don’t have any bag and the taller guy pulled a gun and put it to my head.” Brewster said that after β€œhe put the gun to my head, he turned to his friend who was holding me and said bore she sk..t and take off the chain off her neck. He fired a bore and I pull away. When he fired the bore my phone fell out my hand and he bent over to pick it up and I start running. β€œHe then ran behind me saying give me the chain, so I burst the chain and threw it to him.” She said that the two thieves went back to the class and asked the children, β€œWhere is miss bag?” The children showed where it was in the cupboard and they took it. The purse contained her driver’s licence, her ID card and bank card. β€œI had US$100 and $10 000 along with other documents.” Brewster said that during the time of the robbery she had about a dozen children aged between seven and eight years. They witnessed the entire traumatic ordeal. β€œThis morning when I came to work some parents came and said that they would not be able to bring their children to school because they were still traumatized especially those that were in front that saw when the gun was placed to my head.” The teacher explained that the short robber escaped through a hole in the fence, while the taller one scaled the fence but in the process lost one side of his boots and his pants. He had become entangled in the barbed wire at the top of the fence. It tore off his pants. The man fled the scene in his trunks. The police have in possession his boot and torn pants. She described the men as being between 19 and 23. The police came and took a statement and then questioned the children, took pictures of the fence and told her that they were following up the investigation. The teacher said that even though the school has a guard she is β€œscared to go back to the classroom because she is lonely and the back there is dangerous.” Brewster said that a few years ago a parent came into the school and took a teacher’s bag. A parent has since provided the identity of one of the bandits to the police. He said that he had actually confronted the man after the robbery and had demanded that the man return the teacher’s property. He said that the fact that this has not been done is disrespectful.

- says low rate of prosecution also cause for concern

President Donald Ramotar expressed his dissatisfaction with the increasing number of unsolved crimes which are plaguing the Guyana Police Force. The Head of State while delivering the feature address at the opening of the Police Officers Annual Conference yesterday said that there is an alarmingly high incidence of unresolved crimes and low rates of prosecution, resulting largely from police failures.
According to Ramotar, these two issues can have serious consequences. He stressed that these could lead to heightened criminal activities within the country.
The president said that all the blame β€œshould not and is not being place solely on the police”. He said that he has already spoken to the Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall to address the issue with the judicial authorities.
Ramotar expressed his total disapproval at two highly debated cases. One is the β€˜Bourda shooting’ when local club cricketer Carlyle Barton was seen on surveillance camera shooting another man. Several months after being charged, Barton was released after pertinent witnesses failed to attend court and give evidence.
The second case which the Head of State made reference to was that of businessman Randy Jagdeo.  Jagdeo was charged with the murder of biker Kurt Davis. According to the president this case was truly heart-rending and shows possible scheming.
β€œHe had a motorcycle waiting on him at the court…It shows that he must have known what was going to happen that day!” the President stressed.
Ramotar noted that it was totally unacceptable for persons to escape justice because of poor preparedness of cases by Prosecutors, failure to ensure witnesses attend Court, failure to apply for witness summons, discrepancy in evidence and Police Officers failing to attend Court, all of which have been the result of failed prosecutions in recent times. He said that there must be an improvement to ensure that there is value for money.
The President also said that there should be greater collaboration between all the disciplined forces and the judiciary. Working together, he stressed, would help to put an end to criminal activities, lest it is encouraged and fostered locally. He said that if this is continued they would create an avalanche of crimes within the society.
The Guyana Police Force has been coming under increased criticism for its failures with many cases in the court. There have been concerns that the Force has not been doing enough to get witnesses to attend court and ensure that they offer evidence in matters before the court.
Meanwhile, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Shalimar Ali-Hack, who was also present at the Police Conference, said that she has given the Magistrate direction to reopen the Barton case and to find and get a further statement from the missing witness in the Jagdeo matter.
According to the DDP, they had sent for the depositions in the Jagdeo matter and the witness who didn’t testify was supposed to give a further statement when it came for advice. The file was sent back to the police for them to find the witnesses, take further statements, and return it to the DPP Chambers.

You all remember this from the DUCK?

Has anything changed since he issued this empty edict?

What a kwaker.
