Guyana Foreign Minister Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett and UNICEF Guyana/Suriname Representative Dr Suleiman Braimoh have signed a five-year Country Programme Action Plan that will provide Guyana with $15.2 million in funding.

The programme is developed through a mutual agreement to advocate for the Rights of the Child and for greater parity in gender equality.

Rodrigues-Birkett said the signing comes “at a critical juncture in our country as we strive to meet the Millennium Development Goals, some of which we believe we have met already.”

The CPAP will support national priorities and policies aimed at increasing social issues for child survival and protection, adolescent development and parliamentary reform regarding legislation for the protection of women and children.

“One of the key things that came out of the MDG report and then the way forward, has to do with the fact that are few pockets, few issues,” Braimoh said.

According to Braimoh, the programme has been couched within the context of the UN’s developmental assistance to Guyana as a whole.

Rodrigues-Birkett said the signing marked an “important step” in Guyana’s cooperation with the UN and UNICEF in particular.

You have a very short memory or rather it typifies that addled thinking of yours. A short while ago we had this discussion here with respect to the perfidy UNISCO placed itself in in going outside of its social advocacy position and assuming a political stance on Palestine.

While I sympathized with its view I noted it was to be contrasted with the consequences of being penalized for it and so being unable to fill its much needed role to the poor. Well that time is here. They are broke as no other state has come in to fill the short fall of cash that Obama has decided to with hold. That is all I referenced.

As for you stupid bigoted aspersion on Native peoples; my response is simply that you reflect well who you are.

Is that a criticism of the PPP? They are adroit at the begging bowl. That much must be said of them. Actually producing something real is another.

My comment is as explained  above.

D2 and Nehru, this is a political discussion forum. Both of you are getting too personal.

Debate the issues on facts and merit without personal attacks against each other and the debate will become more interesting and civilised. We can then all join in the debates.

BTW, where is Rev Al and Carib these days ? Drop in from time to time for the debates.
