In sultry conditions at the Fatima Collage ground in Port-of-Spain, Guyanaβ National U-15 football team climaxed their three-match warm-up series yesterday with a 4-1 victory over Fatima Collage U-16 team who also used this game as preparation for next monthβs National Secondary schools tournament. The Guyanese side, led Josiah Braithwaite and Coached by Brian Joseph, used this series as preparation ahead of their CONCACAF U-15 Championships which starts in Florida from Sunday. After drawing 1-1 with North Zone on Monday and losing 6-2 to Naparima Collegeβs U-20 on Wednesday, the South Americans colts, playing a team in their age group, dominated their Trinidadian counterparts to register an emphatic with win on another well maintained ground. Guyana had most of the ball possession and more shots on goal on the fast surface, but several opportunities to score and should have netted at least five more goals in the farewell game here, went abegging. Jermaine Garrett opened the scoring for Guyana in the 44th minute with a well-placed free-kick which bisected the βwallβ and beat Fatimaβs second goalie Matthew Perrier who had just replaced Jabari Dennis in Goal. Guyana had earlier made several raids on Goal in the first stanza but some good shots were well saved by the impressive Dennis and at the half the score read Guyana 1, Fatima nil. Eleven Minutes into the second half, a small Fatima Collage group watched as Renaldo Rodrigues powered one from just outside the 18-yard box before a defensive error resulted in an own Goal in the 55th minute for the Trinidadians. Omari Glasgow dribbled the defence and patted in a rebound from off the Keeper from his first shot into the open goal to make 3-1 in 68th minute before the tall and lanky Troni Semple, who fired a number of shots running around from the right flank including one the that hit the bar, patted the ball past a bemused Kyle Donaldson, Fatimaβs third Custodian to make it 4-1 to Guyana. The dread locked Marcus Wilson was sturdy in defence and ensured that Oswin Fredericks, who has been outstanding between the uprights in every game, had as little work as possible to do.
