Guyanese Awarded Russian scholarships

Russian Ambassador to Guyana, Nikolay Smirnov hosted a reception at the Russian Embassy for the departure of five students living in Linden and Berbice who were awarded scholarships to study at the Peopleβs Friendship University in Moscow.
Kollis Smith, Kiefer Bacchus, Patricia Anthony, Tenesha Lesflores and Denbre McGarrell were selected as the awardees for this programme among talented youngsters whose parents are employed with Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc (BCGI).
Head of RUSAL, Mr. Vladimir Permyakov said that this initiative is a contribution enhancing the co-operation between RUSAL, a Russian company which formed the joint venture Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc (BCGI) in 2004, and is a further step to improve the Russian-Guyanese bilateral relations.
The list of universities in Russia that are authorized to accept foreign students and provide state scholarships was forwarded to the Public Service Ministry on August 15th of this year.
With a duration of five years, RUSAL takes upon itself the responsibility to fully sponsor these students. This is inclusive of air fares to and from Moscow, Russia, tuition fees, monthly stipend, accommodation and allowances for furniture and clothing.
The students will take the advantage of benefiting from a monitoring body established by RUSAL which provides additional assistance if needed and also visit various aluminum plants, engage in the companyβs holidays and cultural events as members of the RUSAL family.
On completion of their studies these qualified young people will gain employment with BCGI.
