One of the survivors of the 9-11 tragedy, who was in the Twin Towers at the time of the attack, has spoken with VOCM News about his experience. Jan Khan is originally from Guyana and has family connections in this province. Khan, a New York state employee, had his office on the 82nd floor of the North Tower. He says the first sign of trouble was the sound of a jet engine, coming way too close to the building. He says a few seconds later the building shook. Khan says he nearly fell out of his chair, and his desk slid across the floor. He knew something was wrong and that this was not the normal movement of the building. Then, when he looked out of his window he saw tonnes of paper and pieces of the building falling to the ground. Khan says he and his fellow employees looked out the glass entrance door to their office and could see smoke and flame from the elevators. They escaped from the building via a stairwell.
