Guyanese man jailed in BVI for molesting teenage boy

Guyanese native Oliver Lewis, 34, was sentenced to three and half years in prison after being found guilty of six counts of gross indecency with a 13 year-old boy in the British Virgin Islands (BVI).

The court brought this decision during Lewis’ appearance on October 3. Prior to him being sentenced, in mitigation, the accused told the court that prison is not for him and his time spent there while on remand was not a good experience.

β€œThroughout the entire time spent in prison, it wasn’t a good experience. Prison is not for me. I’ve learnt patience while in prison and I’m sorry for wasting the court’s time,” said the accused.

Lewis was also ordered to compensate the minor with US$10,000. Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste Dabreo, who presided over the case noted, β€œIn no way is the court saying that any monetary sum can make up in any way for this act. The fine is necessary to provide him with counselling needed in terms of everything that happened.”

According to court records, between April and June 2013 at Lambert and Mount Healthy, BVI, Lewis performed sexual acts, including oral sex on the 13 year-old. He also influenced the boy to perform oral sex and other acts on him (Lewis).
