Mother, son sentenced in arson scheme

SCHENECTADY - A mother and son were sentenced on arson charges after a fire on Linden Street back in 2014.
Prosecutors say 42-year old Sardawatie Beedasee and her son Romal Ramgadoo, 22, admitted to arranging to set the fire at their rental property at 66-68 Linden Street back in May of 2014.

The two hired a 14-year-old to set fire to the property in order to cash in on a recently purchased insurance policy, according to prosecutors.
In exchange for his arson plea, Ramgadoo was sentenced to 2 1/2 to 7 1/2 years in prison. His mother, Beedasee, was sentenced to 2 to 6 years behind bars. Both defendants also face possible deportation to Guyana.
